Default How can I stop myself from accessing one particular website?

If there was one site I was wasting too much time on, is there a way in firefox to block myself from accessing it?

If not, does anyone know of a a free util that I can do this with?

Thanks.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Open the file "host" using Notepad.

Add this line:

0.0.0.0 www.thesite.com
0.0.0.0 thesite.com

Thanks, I'd forgotten you could do this. It doesn't seem to work though, I can still access the site. If I try to ping it in dos, it won't let me and maps the url to 0.0.0.0 but in ie and firefox it still works.

Maybe try clearing the cache?

There are lots of ways of course. Block it through the firewall, block it through the browser (don't think Firefox has this option though) and of course the HOST file. Be sure to reboot though for the HOST file to be effective.

I have HOSTS in \Windows\System32\Drivers\etc btw. Also, my list of blocked sites all have 127.0.0.1 before them, not 0.0.0.0

This site wouldn't happen to be 2+2, would it?

What about those 'Net Nanny' style apps that password protect specific sites?

1. Go to whois.net and look up the domain point of contact

2. Call them and find out what datacenter the site is hosted in

3. Break into the datacenter and locate the server(s) for said site

4. (A) Pull the aforementioned server out of the rack and (B) throw it to the ground. Use force

5. Repeat step 4(B) until you grow weary or you are arrested

Note: this is a "cross browser" method - it works for FireFox, Opera, Netscape, and IE

This may require some social engineering, but is also compatible with Lynx and will surely prevent you from circumventing your 'security' for some time.
