I'm looking at my NIC details and the data is as follows:

packets sent 3861
packets recieved 20530
send errors 0
recieve errors 21721 ????????


is my NIC bad by chance?

More likley the cable, try switching cable and give it a go.

By god it was the cable!!!!!! Thank you both for the help. Out of curiosity why did the cable work on the old computer? Or did it get damaged being moved?
