Default Kings in a Deck of Cards

Does anybody know if the Kings in a deck of cards are named after historical figures, if so what are the names?

I remember seeing something that could answer your question in Positively 5th Street by James McManus (toward the beginning of the book), but there's no chance I'd remember the details without looking them up. FWIW, yes, I'm pretty sure that the face cards were based off of some sort of historical figure.

I know the King of Clubs is Julius Caesar. Another is Charlemenge (sp) possibly king of hearts. Another was Alexander the great. And another I believe was David King of Israel.

Wow, my advice in that thread was unbelievably awful. It's simply amazing how bad it is. I hope I look back in two years and think the same thing about what I am writing now.

IIRC-

K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] - David
K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] - Alexander the Great
K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] - Julius Caesar
K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] - Charlemagne

Edit: Not IIRC, I had to google to make sure

None of them did, although Cleopatra did have a son by Caesar. You're thinking of Mark Antony.
