Default LC: Checking the river from EP w/ winning hand

I was wondering if it is better to check the river in early position with the winning hand or bet to extract maximum value. For example:

He's obviously going to think something is up if you're check calling him to the river. Thus, giving someone a chance to check behind on the river and get a free showdown is a loss of a bet. Make a medium or large bet that makes it look like a steal or a missed draw, and pray they have two pair or better and will call you.

First, if you had led the flop you probably could have gotten it all in right then. Second, I'd checkraise the turn. Finally, you cannot give him a chance for a free showdown on the river. Good hands like this don't come around that often. Don't be so fancy and bet/raise more aggressively and you will probably win a bigger pot

There seems to be a current fad of people on this forum calling these bets.

I'd push all in and hope that I was up against a 2+2 lurker.

I'd probably disagree with the check-raise on the turn, as it would give his opponent the chance to get away from the hand; pairing the board would put his opponent behind a 3, pocket kings or aces, and would scare him away from the river.

My work here is done......

Thanks for posting this one, always nice to know that people will actually try stuff out rather than just read it

Edit: If only the play worked every time....

I'd say practice the play in the NA v EU game - will work a treat with all those 2+2'ers Lori

I haven't been able to reach any poker sites (or any worth playing) for 24 hours thanks to some local bs or other. It looks like I won't be able to play

u have at least a month Lori (sticking a salesmans foot in the door!!) - we're just getting the poll sorted and Doc has asked if any marketing freebies on offer from stars

If you're sorted before mid Oct time EU would be delighted to add such talent/grace and finesse to it's numbers which all helps to keep the NA's on the back foot.

I won't follow you about though - so rest easy lol - if you get it sorted and you're about mid/late Oct on stars - join in for EU

cheers

stoneii
