So I'm going to California a week early for the PPM III with a couple of friends and I was just wonder if there was any where to play poker (NL Hold 'em preferably but limit is ok) there or near there?

Lucky Chances is right next to San Francisco. They have a 10-10-20 nl game on Friday nights for sure and maybe on Wednesdays. They have a 5-5 nl game on sunday night.

The 10-10-20 goes M/W/F. 5-5, as Boris said, goes Sundays. LC is a short drive from the city. Do a search for Bay Area or SF here and you'll find all manner of threads describing all your playing options in detail.
