These aren't traps. They are simply players with hands they like but aren't crazy about who are also getting very itchy as to fulfilling their next need towards self-actualization.

So, they limp b/c their hands looks 'good.' Then they call b/c they can't help themselves.

The funny thing is, in *some* circumstances, these hands are fine trapping hands (HU or even 3 haned) vs. a very aggressive player (Dr. Gammon or whomever that is comes to mind).

People that call pushes with Ax (or worse) are laughable. I see this all too often as well, and it'll never go away unfortunately.

Any ace is the same as two aces at the 11's.

At the lower limits? Does this include the $50s? Cause I see it all the time there, too.

I was heads up the other day and I had about 15BB to villains 10BB. He limped and I pushed with AT. He called with Q7. He won, and I couldn't help but ask him: "Trapping with Q7 there?"

That's not an usual occurance, BTW. I'll play 20 or so tonight, and see a dozen or so things as bad or worse than that.

In the last two or three days, I have seen a ridiculously high amount of players setting traps with hands such as AT, 77, K9. This is a reminder for many of you beginners here who make a play like this that hands like these are to be pushed. The reason for this is that with said hands you tend to be only a 2:1 favorite to someone who is pushing with any two (and sometimes you will actually be an underdog). If you push with said hands, your friend fold equity makes this a much more profitable play as most players who play the bubble properly know to fold all but the best hands with a big stack when pushed into. But then again, everyone here probably already new this.

That is all,
Johnny

Are they really setting traps or is this just another case of the "reverse gap" principle?

Bigwig, I have seen this many times myself. My usual response, when I lose is, "GG, and thanks for the chance to double up."

This probably isn't as good as just saying GG, but I find it better than flying off the handle. But, how can I be mad at him? It's just the cards, not the player. Besides, he's giving me an overlay along with a 2:1 chance to double up! Thanks for the fish, otherwise this game would be a challenge.

And you still don't like having a 5:3 edge to double up especially with stack. Getting called sucks. :/
