Default Re: Republicans have cut all fat from budget

[ QUOTE ]
I think the most preferrable government given the system we have is one party in control of Congress and one party in control of the White House. Maybe if a Democrat wins the White House next term, the Republicans in Congress will rediscover their fiscal discipline if for no other reason than good, old-fashioned partisan politics.

[/ QUOTE ]

When you say "given the system we have" how much are you taking as a given? The framework laid out in the Constitution or the current bureaucratic machinery that has built up since then? An elaborate, carefully-balanced system (with all the overhead of maintaining such system) of playing two competing parties off against each other (with occasional spending orgies when either side gains a temporary advantage) is considerably less than "preferrable".

You don't have to give all that pretense. It's ok to claim we'd be better off with no government at all.

It is true though that govt grew less with divided control.

institute means-testing for Social Security

Yeah, that's REAL fair. You want to turn SS into another welfare program, don'tcha? People who paid into SS should get their benefits, regardless of current income.
