Agreed...the best thing about III was making up names for the created players. My personal favorites were B. Toff and S. Trogen. C. Minh was another good one. Also had a linebacker named D. Pthroat.

My brother and I came up with a series of rules and adjustments which made the computer a significant enough challenge.

i.e. no criss-crossing when you're in the clear?

Ya that was one of the first ones.

No nose tackle another obvious one

We had a must punt/kick rule which eliminated the miracle yet standard 4th down conversions except when down in the 4th quarter. I think you got 1 minute for every score you down.

For the playstation version where you could alter stats it helped to adjust the awareness and quickness of the computer defense as well as the avoid sack of the QB.

ALso pick out a few the NFL elite on oppossing teams, for example Randy Moss, Peyton Manning and Ray Lewis and make them into basically super players. Don't go over board with this one though.

i love when you fumble and the ball goes blooop bloop bloop and bounces around for an hour

or when you get a quarterback sack and the announcer gets all echoey "...quarter...bac...k.s..a..c..k"
