Default rite call rite fold?

this is my first post and im new to nl tournis and nl. I usually play limit and decided to start playing nl. I read slansky tournament poker and am reading tj's but im still clueless as to how to play. So here were the two hands.

First situation theres 4 left in tourni. Utg folds and the button short stack ( with about 1200 to my 1500) He was a pretty passive player i was holding a9s in bb in for 200 chips and i folded. Next ahnd i was dealt ako and the chip leader raised the button to 500 i had about 1300 left i went all in he called with 55 and beat me. Did i play these right?

yes, u did.

i might (mite?) call with A9s, but I think folding isn't horrible. It depends on if he's been stealing often. If he's passive as you say, I probably fold, but if he's aggressive, I'm pushing in, hoping to steal the blinds. If he calls, pray for a good board.
