Default A Speculative Trade - Buying Volatility

QQQ settled at 36.63 yesterday

September 36 calls went out at 2.80

September 37 puts went out at 2.40

I'm buying both. I don't speculate like this very often but with a small portion of my bankroll I'm going to give it a shot. I'm betting that volatility picks up.

Why not buy a single particular highflyer like YAHOO or TASR if making that kind of bet? I would think diversifying over the entire QQQ would reduce your volatility. Shouldn't picking one wildly overvalued or overhyped stock a few days or a week before an earnings announcement produce a greater up or down swing in one day??????
