Default Double up

I need a little help with this math/reasoning problem.

Let's say you have $1,100 and your goal is to win $1,000 sports betting but you have little to no knowledge of sports.

All bets are at a regular 10% vig and the only goal is to win $1,000 regardless of how much time it takes.

What would be the best way to approach this? One double up bet and a number of smaller bets?

How would this relate to poker and bank rolls? I read that you need a BR of 300 times the bb but is this to play for a long time? If you are not that good wouldn't you be better off playing one or two big tournaments instead of trying to win little by little?

Thanks
