Re: what anti-virus software to use?
[ QUOTE ]
I use Avast which is free software, and I like it. [/ QUOTE ] I recently talked to tech support at my ISP (a small and user-friendly operation), and they said Avast is the best there is. |

Re: what anti-virus software to use?
I like NOD32 as well, but when I get my new computer I'll probably try Avast. I like the idea of using freeware as much as possible. I gave up Norton/McAfee long ago. With my computer of modest resources it was a resource hog. I then found it to be unbelievably difficult to completely uninstall. It left files all over the place which were not deleted in the standard uninstall process. Had to use a registery cleaner to get rid of all of them. Just recently I had to unistall and reinstall NOD32 and it uninstalled cleanly and completely in one shot.

Re: what anti-virus software to use?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] There are often moral principles that compete with each other. An example of two, "It is good to help others" and "It is good to help yourself". [/ QUOTE ] McAfee is the nuts. I've tried all of the freebies (Avast, Zone Alarm, etc.) and everything else, and I've never been happier with McAfee. It's easy to use, unobtrusive, reliable, and not that expensive for the peace of mind. Screw all that free crap--it ain't worth it. [/ QUOTE ] McAffe came with my PC with a free trial, and I've paid to extend it. My only complaint (minor) is that it makes you log in as an administrator to install the updates. |
