Re: I found $640: now what?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] if you put 40k in a bag and allow it get blown off by the wind, you deserve to lose your money, all of it. [/ QUOTE ] not true [/ QUOTE ] I'll bite. How is it "not true" that a fool and his money are deservedly soon parted? [/ QUOTE ] because i (try to) live by the golden rule. if i had FOR SOME WEIRD REASON forgotten the money like that, and someone found it, i would want for them to return it to me. so that's what i would do. |

Re: I found $640: now what?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Tripp: I'd like to read the statute, if you know of one... I don't care what state its from, I'm just interested in seeing just how protected from themselves and their own stupidity today's Americans really are. If you drop $640, and don't notice it, you don't deserve to have the $640. Period. Flame on, yasher [/ QUOTE ] 18 Pa.C.S. (Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes) § 3921 Theft by unlawful taking. (a) MOVABLE PROPERTY. --A person is guilty of theft if he unlawfully takes, or exercises unlawful control over, movable property of another with intent to deprive him thereof. The purpose of this statute isn't to protect idiots who lose things. It's to punish scumbags like you that would keep things when they know it isn't theirs. EDITED TO ADD Can't believe I missed this one: 18 Pa.C.S. § 3924 Theft of property lost, mislaid, or delivered by mistake A person who comes into control of property of another that he knows to have been lost, mislaid, or delivered under a mistake as to the nature or amount of the property or the identity of the recipient is guilty of theft if, with intent to deprive the owner thereof, he fails to take reasonable measures to restore the property to a person entitled to have it. [/ QUOTE ] moral: If you find money on the ground in PA, immediately set fire to it. You aren't entitled to it and the person that dropped it sure doesn't deserve it. |

Re: I found $640: now what?
The optimal play is to let the teller call you with any missing money claims with the dollar amount - that only you and the original owner would know.

Re: I found $640: now what?
I was going to get my haircut at about 16-17. Parked, opened up my door looked down and there was a wad of cash sittin there. I bundled it up, stuck under the middle of my car, went and got the haircut. Figured if anyone dropped it they would look under the car. Still there when I got back= my money now.

Re: I found $640: now what?
Keep it, [censored]. Turning it over to the bank is stupid, not only practically but morally. How does the bank's employees know what to do with it better than you?

Re: I found $640: now what?
I thought about this for the last couple of hours, and have decided, that I would probably wait around near the teller station, and not saying anything, but listen for someone who lost money. I def would not give it to a teller, but would feel morally obligated to do something about it. 640$ per half hour is a pretty good wage.
