it actually worked this year

[/ QUOTE ]

It "works" every year in which there are exactly two undefeated major conference teams. And that's about it.

[/ QUOTE ]

and the sad thing is it woulda worked with the old system too.

the bcs pretty much solves what it was set forth to do: choose the best 2 teams (scientifically, which may be flawed), to play for the national title.

any time there are 3 undefeated teams and no playoffs, people are going to whine and bitch about it.

honestly, to all your BCS bashers out there, what do you expect this system to do, magically give on of the three teams a loss?

Playoffs are the only solution, but the greedy NCAA won't have any of it.

Not true

In the old system, it would have been this-

Rose Bowl USC-Penn State
Fiesta Texas-Notre Dame
Orange Florida State-West Virginia
Sugar Georgia-Ohio State

Oregon would still be at the holiday bowl. and #1 and #2 wouldn't be playing

How ironic that if this were the case, PSU would have a shot at the national title by beating USC and ND beating Texas (I can dream!), after going undefeated and not having a shot in '94.

That is correct.

And for all of the complaining last year, without the BCS, USC would have played in the Rose Bowl, Auburn would have played in the Sugar Bowl and Oklahoma would have played in the Orange Bowl.

You forgot Utah. The way it would have fallen last year would have been fine, because we'd then have 4 games that might mean something instead of one that does and 3 that are irrelevant exhibitions.

If PSU beat USC and UT beat ND...you know what that would have mean...

SPLIT TITLE!

How? Texas would still win coaches' and media polls by being undefeated (PSU w/ 1 loss). If a typo, and you meant ND splitting the title, I say your probably right that the media would give it to them.

Yeah, the fans would be huddled around their television sets at 1 AM to see who got "voted" as national champions. No controversy there.
