I like Neutral Milk Hotel as much as the next morose indie popster, but I really think that the Decemberists have out Neutral Milk-ed them now. I like the Decemberists about this |<===================================>| much more.

Really?? wow. Dont get me wrong, I love the decemberists. But, I dont even think the two can be compared in terms of quality.

btw... read the salon article I quoted, as it is based on a comparison of the two.

One more follow up...

This is a "best of" not a "most popular" contest.

There is a significant portion of the music listening population that doesnt know who the velvet underground were. That doesnt mean they were not one of the best bands of all time.
