Going to let us in on your big secret? It involves calls that cost $3.99/minute, doesn't it?

Default You\'re not alone...

People typically play poker for three reasons:
Win Money
Compete Intellectually
Entertainment

All of those are valid reasons. I'd guess most players actually play for a combination of those reasons.

Default There are plenty who dont play for the money

Think of all the rich fish that contiuosly smile while dumping money on the table; they play simply for entertainment. You however are amoung a smaller group of people who dont play for the money, but still work on their game to be a better player (at least I assume, since you post here)

Someone like Ron Rose is a good example of this, the guy is loaded, the tourney buy-ins and payouts are insignificant to his finances. He had some great finishes on the WPT, and said that if he won the championship, he would probably quit playing poker and move onto another challenging activity.

As the saying goes "money isnt everything"

If you want a challenging chess game play online, there are hundreds of players that will challenge/whip your butt. I'm a pretty handy chess player and get a good occasional spanking online. As for slow, all games are played with clocks, so you can play a one game in an hour or lighting chess which can be over in a minute.

Oh yeah this is a poker forum nothing wrong with playing for pleasure.

Demana,

Check out the book MASTERY by George Leonard.

[/ QUOTE ]

What an enlightening book. It extends beyond poker and reaches into everything I've done in the past, how I am in the present, and the ways in which I look at the future.

Thank you for the recommendation Dan!
