I rented Elf the other day on the strength of Will Ferrell's other films and couldn't even get all the way through it, it was so bad.

that said, the best comedy ever? Dr. Strangelove.

woa, slow down there son. Its a good movie. But definately NOT one of the funnier movies of all time. Its like pshrek said, its a good movie, with some good comic relief parts. This wouldnt even make my list of the 50 greatest comedies ever.
