Ummm, are you trying to disagree with me? I think that you just reinforced my point that African-american applies to some people, and for them it's accurate, but that for many american blacks, it isn't.

My original statement was mearly that I find the term "African american" completely retarded, and the people who use it are just PC sheep. Weather it actually applies to some poeple or not, doesnt change the fact its a dumb "label".

You're part Hawaiian? in the original context, hapa referred to people of mixed race, one of which was Kanaka Maoli (Hawaiian). the term is from Hawaiian pigeon english and came about after the mingling of races in Hawaii caused by massive immigration from other parts of the world. You had Hapa-Pake (hawaiian/chinese), Hapa-Buddahead (Hawaiian/Japanese), hapa-haole (Hawaiian, caucasian), etc.
only recently (last ten or so years) has the word been used by the world at large as a term for any mixed race person. literally, "hapa" means "part" as in "part Hawaiian blood". just a little bit of legit info in the sea of ootiness.
