I personally would not stay at the orleans. I haven't liked their room much, others I know feel the same (but obviously some people do like it). I do know you will be hard pressed to find that 6-12 game ever going there, I haven't seen it go even when the list for it was long.

Excalibur would be the place I would choose. They have no limit and spread limit 2-6 with a single $2 blind. If you like limit poker, and can adjust to the structure, the 2-6 is great, particularly late at night. It's also a tram ride (NOT the monorail, lol) away from mandalay bay, where you can probably actually find a 6-12 game (usually with a half kill) and plenty of 4-8 half kill.

As with all places in vegas, the games are MUCH better at night. I suggest you sleep from 9-5 and have dinner for breakfast before you go out playing in vegas.

When you are close to coming, PM me and I'll give you my number so we can meet up and maybe play some poker.

I hereby nominate Al Capone JR for the best rant of 2004. Sorry you only get the glory, no cash.

I've played over 100K hands online but have never went to a B&M ring game. Next week sometime is my first.

Good luck Reef! Don't forget to tip the dealer, and please don't splash the pot!

This should be a sticky for all the players going to the B&M for the first time.

Well done JR. Being a player and a dealer who has to suffer through all of it on both sides of the event I must say you did an excellent job.

1 thing: DO NOT as someone else has suggested line up your chips to the left and bring your cards to the edge to peak. You will actually be hiding the fact that you have cards to the players to your left and they will act out of turn. Just place your chips in front of you and peak at your cards once. and ONLY once. Always know exactly what you have under there. Then place a chip or two on top of your cards. But leave your cards in a place where the players and the dealer can see that you have a hand.

Great Job again Al

edit: oh...also dont stall. every decision is not the final table in the WSOP. forget the acting classes you took. Players see thru it and will crush you or not pay you off. You should be able to act on most hand within 2 seconds of it being your turn. Occasionally 5 seconds and even on the most difficult ones in LIMIT not more than 15 seconds. 98% of the time anything different is poor acting.

Wow, alot of good info here. I'm like the original poster...played alot online but no B&M until a recent trip to an Oregon Indian casino (made trip report already). I'll be making a week long trip to Vegas for extensive play this winter.

Please also post a trip report with all your observations regarding how the games compare to online (which games) and lessons learned regarding ettiquete and other B&M eye openers.

Agreed 100%. Some players constantly do this, and it's an annoyance at first, but after a while you start to think they are doing it on purpose.

As a mini-sub-rant, gimme a friggin break all you people who think that you can't look at your cards because your chips are in the way. Even with a big BIG stack, a little horse-sense should allow even the most mechanically non-inclined to find a way to view their cards without hiding them from the other players. Sheesh!

Well ranted.

Also, when you go to town give Al a call. Had a great session, and got to talk a bit of strategy (in general, no collusion) while at the table with this degenerate gambler.

I will take some exception to just one part of your rant. Some of us non-Vegas-ites cannot help gawking at the cocktail waitresses whenever they are around. Farmville, VA ain't got nothing like that to look at.
