We never got it going, only JTG, Homer and I were willing to play.

Re: Foxwoods 2+2\'ers Trip Report (Very Long)
I don't think my question is right... I think my overall bankroll is OK, I just need to know how much I need in order to play the 5-10 kill game. I like to have 50 BB's when buying in, so I'd be comfortable with $500 if this was a straight 5-10... but the kill is an unknown variable for me.
I'm thinking of having $800 with me for this game, does this sound about right? |

Re: Foxwoods 2+2\'ers Trip Report (Very Long)
I buy into the 10/20 game for $500, but have another $500 in reserve. I only needed the reserve 1x. So $800 ought to be plenty.

Re: Foxwoods 2+2\'ers Trip Report (Very Long)
I think $800 is a bit excessive, if you like to have a lot of chips it's fine, but you shouldn't need that many. You'd have to have a really, really bad night to lose $800 in that game. I usually buy in for $300 ($500 sometimes though), most buy in for $200.
On most nights the kill doesn't hit all that often, maybe 1 out of 4 or 5 hands on average. I played tonight though and every hand for about an hour was a kill. Keep in mind that even when that happens you only lose $7 by folding every hand for a round instead of the $15 you'd lose playing 10/20. So, the bankroll is significantly less than what you'd need for 10/20. |

Re: Foxwoods 2+2\'ers Trip Report (Very Long)
Thanks for the post, JTG.
Boy, $800 does sound excessive. But when I sit down at 4-8, I'll ususally buy $100 in chips, then keep $300 cash on the table. I don't know why. Comfort, I guess? I tell myself that it's good to have that for the ever-elusive heads-up betting war between my quads vs lower quads or inside straight-flush vs. quads. I don't want to run out of money when this situation pops up (it hasn't yet, but I don't have a ton of casino experience). With what you described, $500 sounds fine. |

Re: Foxwoods 2+2\'ers Trip Report (Very Long)
I usually buy into the 5/10 kill with $300. That should be OK at Foxwoods, where the kill is at $100, but it's a bit light for Mohegan, where the kill is at $65

Re: Foxwoods 2+2\'ers Trip Report (Very Long)
My usual M.O. is to buy in for 25 bb, with about another 20 in reserve. Of course, that doesn't account for The Captain.

Kurn -
Had you ever run into him (The Captain) before? I have never seen him before and was wondering if you knew any more about him other than his running over the table last weekend. I'll tell you, I'm glad I didn't get moved to that table, probably would have never played a hand |

Re: Foxwoods 2+2\'ers Trip Report (Very Long)
I'd never played against him before, although i think MG mentioned him in a post from his FW trip. He's a classic maniac. From watching him play, I see no reason at all why he even looks at his cards before the turn. He plays every hand he is dealt (wait, I take that back. He folded ONE hand preflop when I sat with him - I had raised UTG with KK), and he *always* raises when it gets to him preflop and on the flop. The funny thing is, when you talk to him at the table, he's actually a polite guy with a sense of humor.
What really hurt me against him was that I got involved in 3 multi-way, multi-bet pots with excellent drawing hands. Had I hit even one of those draws (those pots were huge), it would have wiped out most of the $700+ loss I took that day. Play with a maniac, grit your teeth and get ready for variance. That being said, I'd rather avoid him. Usually, the 10/20 is tighter than the 5/10, but he changes everything. |

Re: Foxwoods 2+2\'ers Trip Report (Very Long)
Rock,
Just to be clear I'm not saying you shouldn't buy in for $800, just that you don't need to. If you like the image that all those chips projects, then by all means go for it. I've bought into the 10/20 game with $1500 a couple of times and $1000 a bunch of times. I like seeing how the new players to the table react when they can hardly see me because my mountain of chips is up to my chin. I bought in for $400 in the 4/8 game with all the 2+2ers Saturday night, of course I needed all of them that night with the way I was playing. |
