You should do more folding than betting and raising, and more betting and raising than calling.

Son, you've got to know when to hold 'em
know when to fold 'em
know when to walk away
and know when to run,
you never count your money when you're sittin' at the table

(everybody!)

there'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

OK, my Top 10 Selected Pieces of Advice:

1. Read 2+2 books. SSH, HEFAP, TOP, and POP were all fantastically helpful.
2. Get PokerTracker. It's a bargain at 10 times the price.
3. Look for any reason to fold pre-flop, and any reason to bet/raise post-flop.
4. Slow play 1/5th as often as you want to.
5. Bluff 1/5th as often as you want to.
6. Chase 1/5th as often as you want to.
7. Fold to one bet on the river 1/5th as often as you want to.
8. Play with caution but without fear.
9. Never reveal EVERYTHING you know.
10.

Non-self weighting strategy - learn it, know it, live it.

I've received plenty in the past, throughout the different stages of my poker career. Here are some highlights:

~Newbie: If it's not a good blackjack hand, don't play it. Of course it took a while for me to understand that 7-4o is not what he meant.
~Intermediate: When in doubt, fold.
~Advanced: When in doubt, raise.

A friend of mine years ago told me:

The game can't be beat, but you can beat the game.

Far be it that it's obvious advice, but it's something I've thought about ever since.

Nobody ever got rich in limit poker making tough folds on the river.

The best advice I can give you is:

Some people dream about success,
others wake up and work hard for it!
