Why? He was called out. He caught the ball, stood up, the ump called him out, and then he threw the ball back to the mound. If you can't trust the ump when he calls someone out, then what can you do?

See, it doesn't matter whether or not it bounced. He was called out! He never lost control of the ball, never was in any danger of allowing the player to reach base until the ump called the runner out, then changed his mind after the ball was tossed back to the mound.

That ball clearly hit the dirt before he caught it.

I agree, you could just see the ball jump sharply up as it
went into the glove, so it must have hit the dirt.
Only after about 4 different replays did I notice that.

Into the glove, hitting the webbing and bouncing up...

I thought of this, and checked for it, but no. This didn't happen.

Thanks for having eyes, unlike everyone else. I noticed on the first replay. Not that hard really, you see a white thing change direction, it had to hit something... one of Newton's laws of motion or something..

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry but you guys are wrong... the ball hit the webbing of the glove.

i'm sorry, but Joe Buck was 100% correct on that. and its not even close.

[/ QUOTE ]
It was a very close call. One that McCarver jumped so hard on they couldn't back off. And Buck is a douchebag. He tends to pick one story and beat it into the ground all night. Last night we got to hear every half inning about how tired the poor Angels were. And tonight we listen over and over again about how Washburn rolled out of his death bed to pitch this game. I can't wait to hear what this goof has to say Friday night.

You know Jack Buck was a real class act, but his son is turning into a world class d00shbag.

"CONTROVERSY IN CHICAGO! ABSOLUTE DISGUST BY THE ANGELS. THE UMPIRE LETS THE INNING CONTINUE>....THIS WILL BE QUESIONED AND QUESTIONED AND QUESTIONED>>'

F*** you Joe Buck.

That ball clearly hit the dirt before he caught it.

They can't give props to my boy Buehrle for throwing a complete game victory.

[/ QUOTE ]

except that joe buck is right

regardless of whether or not the ball hit the dirt, the home plate ump signaled AJ out after the angels catcher was trotting off the field, which to me means he's out

the ump got confused, overwhelmed, and then didnt have the cajones to straighten it out

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not so sure Paul saw this signal. From what i remember he had his back turned to the ump. Are you sure of this?

And the umps indecisiveness should have never come into play, because a catcher has to tag the guy there. Little leaguers know this.

Lesson: Never put a decision in the hands of the ump that doesn't have to be.

There's this thing attached to the glove.

If a ball traveling 80+ MPH hits the dirt, you would have seen the dirt move. Razor is right.

Yes, I'm not just basing my assessment of him off of his anger at this play. I heard him say about 3 or 4 degrading comments tonight.

He said something like "Pierzynski thinks he can run now", and not even jokingly. He also said a few other things that just aren't necessary. If there is one thing I hate, it's announcers who make fun of pro's.

That said, his dad was a TRUE, CLASSY announcer that I grew up listening to "SWING AND A LONG DRIVE TO DEEP LEFT... THIS COULD GO FOLKS, GOOOOONE A HOMERUN FOR JACK THE RIPPER!!!!", etc. Joe Buck doesn't belong in the booth.

I think that the ball bounced off the lether, the ball was caught. But it doesn't matter. The Umpire called him out. End of discussion.
