Why you shouldn\'t play poker when you are tired
I came home from work after a long day. Figure I'll play a little 3/6 before bed. I am running good and up a nice amount after 1 hour and this hand comes up:
Party Poker 3/6 (10 handed) Hero has 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and is BB UTG limps, EP2 raises, Button calls, SB folds, Hero calls, UTG calls Flop(8 1/3 SB): 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Hero checks, UTG checks, EP2 bets, Button folds, Hero raises, UTG folds, EP2 calls Turn(6 1/6 BB): K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Hero bets, EP2 raises, Hero 3-bets, EP2 caps, Hero calls (At this point I am thinking: Great! He has AK and I am going to get paid!) River(14 1/6 BB): A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Hero bets, EP2 raises, Hero 3-bets, EP2 caps, Hero calls How soon I forgot! Anyone else have problems with what I call 'twitch poker'? I quit right then in disgust. The really bad part is I couldn't fall asleep after this |

Well, you did the right thing by stopping after that hand. Were you playing more than 1 or 2 tables? Either way, it was time to take a break... |

PF: I call to, you are getting 7:1
flop - bet out and hope to three bet, all your checkraise did was get rid of the guy you want still in pot. turn: good, I cap here also river: check/call is the only play here. |

Re: Why you shouldn\'t play poker when you are tired
The importance of reads.
FLOP: I checkraised cause I think guy between me and raiser is going to fold to any action (been limping folding for an hour when high cards hit) and I might pick up extra from 3rd guy v. when I bet and raiser raises me. That was my thinking. RIVER: Your proposal is obviously the default play. As crazy as it sounds if this happened now when I have my wits I would check fold. I knew what he had. Yes, I should have mucked the boat. One of m main weakneses is when I know I have HAD the best hand the whole way I have a hard time surrendering on the river when I am beat. Be it check-call or check-fold. Anyways, I just wanted to post this hand so the public humiliation would force into my mind the importance of actually thinking while I play, and not play when tired. |
