Default A couple of run-of-the-mill etiquette questions....

This isn't anywhere near a big game, but I had a nice 12-hour, +170 session at a B&M the other night playing 2/5. I was tipping a dollar pretty much every pot except those where it was basically only the blinds, and $2 on two pretty big ones.

So leaving the table:

a) Is it expected that I should tip a couple more dollars? I've likely put 15 in the toke already.

and, a second question I feel might be ridiculous...

b) Should I be tipping the cashier? If so, what?

Hey nsj,

If you're toking the dealer after every pot you win, I wouldn't worry about toking when you get up. I've never had a problem with that line.

Tipping the cashier is optional. I'd say if you're feeling generous to maybe throw a dollar their way, but think of it like the bank. You don't tip the teller when you make a withdrawal, do you?

Hope this helps you out.

Totally agree with the above.

In a low limit game, if you are tipping a dollar a pot, you are already getting raped, you don't have to kiss them.

Same thoughts about the cashier. I don't tip my bank teller, or the girl at the cash register at the grocery store, so why would I tip the girl at the casino cage?
(unless she had really big, uh..., eyes.)

Nice.
Thank you, all of you.

I didn't think either was in order, and I felt I was being plenty generous with the waitresses and dealers, but you're right.

I don't tip my bank teller, but she also never gives me an extra $170 either....

unless you netted $340 after walking away, she didn't give you and "extra" 170.

I don't see any reason to tip the dealer extra at the end if you've been tipping all along. I often tip the cashier. How much the cashier gets tipped is usually a function of how much money I made and how many small bills I receive when cashing out.

On a semi-related note, is it considered "good form" to tip the floor? If so, how much and which one? ie. there are usually 3 or so floor people. Do you just find one and latch on to them every time in order to have some sort of continuity?

I'm not really worrying about it now as I'm still low limit and don't go often enough to make it a big deal, but am curious nonetheless.

Odd tipping point. In Vegas the 3/6 dealers all had $.50 pieces to chop blue chips for tips (except at Excalibur, where they used quarters for tips and the drop, which was very annoying). At Canterbury there was nary a coin in sight, rendering the minimum tip $1. Also, Minnesotans seemed to live up to their reputation as "nice" as they much more often tipped $2-3 or more for a pot at the 4/8, 6/12 and 9/18 games than I ever saw in Vegas. Given the choice, I'd deal at Canterbury any day (also there were fewer obvious pricks in MN, but also no drunk tourists, but I digress).
