I just won a seat through a $55 tournament online to the WSOP main event...I found out that i have to play in the event and can not take the money.
I usually play 3/6 limit holdem at my local casino and do quite well with tight/aggressive play. Although i have played tournaments before, i have never played anything close to a 10,000 buy in. I guess i am looking for advice to where i should start to get my no limit tournament game up to par as i dont want to blow any chance i might have to doing well. I obviously will be living on this board for the next 3-4 weeks but if anyone has any other reading material that they suggest i look at, please let me know. I am just looking for anything to improve my game. Either way, it is going to be an experience of a life time! Thanks for any help. Please feel free to contact me through AIM: olley20 or email me at briancurry19@hotmail.com or just reply to the post. Thanks! IaHawk |

Brian,
Congrats from a Nebraskan! Read the books above. Also search the MTT forum for "Favorite Posts" and you'll find some good reading material. Nick |

Watch whatever big tournaments you can on video, too. For one thing, you wanna be able to recognize the top players who aren't really household names just yet. For another, I think it helps you to get a feel for what playing in a big live MTT is like; it certainly couldn't hurt.
Congrats on the seat! And remember, Moneymaker had never played a live tournament before he won the ME two years ago...don't be intimidated & play smart. |

I would also suggest reading Tournament Poker for the Advanced Player by Sklansky, that book has helped me leaps and bounds in tournament play. Also TJ Cloutier's Hand by Hand Guide to tournament poker which is another great read.
Also, you mentioned a local casino, I would suggest playing in their tournaments as much as you can til the ME. While the ME will be different any live tourney experience you can get will help. |

Congratulation and best luck to you.
Remember also the guy who won 7card stud this year, never played a hand of stud in his life ever before the tournament. Its just a matter of luck. |

the best advise i can give is get a headset and let someone coach you through the final table who stands to win nothing. also suck out with 73o, 53o, T9o v QQ, and backdoor many straights with Q9c v AA.

[/ QUOTE ] "the guy" who won that tournament, is also the top ranked internet player according to pocketfives.com. "Its just a matter of luck" You are right, i am going to enter my dog into the main event because its just a matter of luck. |
