Robertie on Poker...
Anyone else fired up that Harrington's co-author for his upcoming NL hold em book is Bill Robertie? When I was learning to play backgammon, I bought a (beginners) book of Bill's on backgammon, and really liked his logic/emphasis on taking early (smaller) risks to build big advantages for later in the game, etc.
Should be interesting to see how he applies his backgammon expertise to poker. |

True that. I think that he is a fantastic instructional writer making difficult concepts easily understandable. There are certainly a lot of parallels between the games with the luck involved and pushing edges.

[/ QUOTE ] Glad I'm not the only backgammon player on 2+2 . When I learned backgammon by reading one of Robertie's books (for beginners), he seemed to really break things down well into very basic concepts (versus rigid rules), and gave good examples of how to apply those concepts in play. I think it'll be beneficial also to get the perspective of someone who's a world-class "risk-reward-probability games" player in more than just poker. (Probably) like some other people on these boards, one of things that piqued my interest to take up poker was watching a WPT episode and learning that Gus Hansen was a world class backgammon player before he took up poker - then seeing the WSOP coverage and leraning that Harrington was a top backgammon player as well. |
