Re: Stars $650.00 Hand for Analysis
cant really analyze your flop play, since this is all preflop... but im assuming you mean to analyze your preflop play. In this case, I dont think I like it. I can see calling the 150, but going in for that much without any reads on anyone yet with pocket jacks is something id try to stay away from...

Re: Stars $650.00 Hand for Analysis
actually now that i go back and look at it again...
mp2 gave a steal a try with his large stack. BB called him on it and came back over the top. im just guessing, but id think that mp2 had done that a few times, based solely on stack size. normally, a reraise by BB would indicate a huge hand, ie AA or KK, but in this case i dont think the hand has to be that strong. Possible that he has AK or AQ. Looking at postflop play, it seems that his 3/4 pot bet is continuation. I like the raise, but that means that about half your stack is in the pot at this point. Unless Im grossly misunderstanding the 40% rule, you shouldve pushed there. I am honestly not sure if you are ahead or behind at this point, as he could have an overpair, AK-AQ, or even TT possibly. |

Re: Stars $650.00 Hand for Analysis
PF in position, I reraise to the 400 with JJ.
I know most people don't consider JJ a reraising hand, but with only one open raiser in before you it is more of an isolation / future control bet. There is little chance of the blinds coming along (with two raisers in front of them) or repopping it unless they have true strength. And of course I would be happy to just take down the 150+blinds PF if it happens. Post flop, I don't know where I am. The PF reraiser bets into you. Is he really strong dominating you?, or does he sense weakness?, since you were strung along calling two raises PF. Or did he miss and through out a continuation bet? You made a nice strong reraise, but what is your plan if he comes over the top?, or bets into you again on the turn? You are just about pot commited. If you think you are ahead and would call further bets, did you consider pushing the turn to get AK to fold here? I would hate to be in for so much only to see overcards fall on later streets. He may just about have pot odds to call your raise with AK, but a push may be harder/incorrect to call. Unfortunatley though there are few hands other than AK or a bluff that you have beat that may fold to your bet or a larger bet. Did you have any reads at all from prior hands? |

Re: Stars $650.00 Hand for Analysis
I actually meant to say 'pushing the flop' in my prior response.
Still not certain what I would actually do once at this point in the hand though. I don't think I could fold here (maybe thats a problem). Without reads biasing me I probably do different things at different times. 1 in 4 call; 1 in 4 raise; 2 in 4 all-in. May be a cop-out, but I believe in Mike Caro's concept that people can't be counted on doing the same thing each time in identical circumstances. There are 6 hands I am really afraid of (AA-QQ and sets), and a bunch of hands I need protection from. There are few hands that I dominate. Tough spot. |
