Clement; other stuff
Matt Clement came back yesterday and got the win. He walked 4 in 5 innings while throwing 103 pitches, giving up 5 hits and 6 earned runs. The public is going to say "he's back." Maybe he is, but he'd have gotten crushed yesterday save for the fact that his team managed an offensive explosion good for 8 runs in the 4th inning. In horse racing, this is called "getting a good trip" and often good trip horses can be bet against next out at a good price. Maybe that's true of pitchers, too?
All the talk here seems to be betting ON a team or a pitcher. As a newcomer to baseball betting, I wonder if a bet-against strategy can work too? My pix for today: Sheets -117 Smoltz +103 Sheets going very well now, is tons better than Lidle Smoltz also on top of game, vs Mulder who I regard as over-rated; Cards have injuries. Tempted by Pettitte -115 over Schmidt, but price looks about right, and I don't like to bet against good strike-out pitchers. bc |
