Default Any pro out there making a living Online without the software toys?

Hi Everyone,
In a post elsewhere there's some debate about the fairness of Poker Edge.

A question in my mind as a someday hopeful online pro is...

"Has *already* become a software arms race?"

and

"Is it even pointless to try without those tools?"

One poster wrote he had a hard time finding a table at party with as many as 3 "fish" these days as defined by his software filters.

Is it already over?

Sure, there are plenty of good sites out there with good games that none of these tools work on. But party and skins, well, it's PT and gametime for me and if I ever play there seriously again probably pokeredge as well.

If your ambition was to someday be a professional carpenter - would you be asking about hammering nails with your fist?

I don't see a problem with using these types of software, it is not like you can see your opponents hole cards with them.

Using poker edge or PT won't turn a losing player into a winning player.

Couldn't have said it better.

I've noticed this talk going on in the Internet forum and it's absolute insanity....it really is.

If your going to play 4 tables (or more) provides you with quick reads on players you wouldn't be able to get a quality read on otherwise. IF you were playing just one table, I might argue that you would be better off paying attention on not relying on stats. It really depends on what your doing.

Losing players will always find excuses for their losses and something to bitch about. This is the common nature of the loser. (Note: I'm not referring to the OP here)

I don't think that is what the OP meant, I think a better analogy would be using a hammer instead of a nailgun. You can still get reads w/o the software, it just helps.

Otherwise, I guess all B&M pro's are just "using their fists"

My friend does it because he's too lazy to get them. It's incredibly stupid.

you can definitely play and maybe win without the various s/w tools available to profile opponents; but i think the consensus (here especially) will be that if its not outright forbidden, if you can glean any advantage, leverage it.

some might even say (and many more probably think) that if its forbidden but not enforced, you should press that advantage as well (e.g. collude, bots, some sites have clauses forbidding profiling s/w but don't enforce it, etc)
