Default browser problem, any help?

yesterday this forum started being weird for me. a thread will say like (5) new responses, i'll click it, read it, refresh page later, it'll still say (5) new and still be bold, even if nothing new has been posted to it. or it will be (10), if 5 new posts were made from where i last read. if i close out of IE and come back, it will mark the whole forum as read, but then it just does the same thing over again with new posts.

it is annoying. i can't figure out why it is doing that all of a sudden or how to fix it ! any ideas ?

Go to My Home, and at the bottom it will say "My Cookies"

Click on it and clear them

i don't have a "my home" that i see.
but i already tried Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Cookies

also tried Delete Temporary Internet Files, that didn't help either.

also clearing history didn't help.

this is frustrating ! it's probably something really dumb and obvious but i can't figure it out.
