Default AJ UTG and in early positon generally

Hi there ive been playin microlimit for the past few months.I've managed to build my bankroll steadily and i feel by reading this and other forums my LHE game has improved immmensely. But i still feel as though theres so much to learn so firstly i was just wondering what the general opinion is according to books and experienced players as to what to do with AJ utg and in early position i sometimes throw it away and other times i come in for a raise but i dont like limping bcause it:
a) encourages other people to limp with weak hands when they should be paying to beat me.
b) i think by raising your staying aggressive which is important in limit holdem.
So just wondering what i should do and also should i take into account the state of the game and the players im against like tight or loose, passive or aggressive that sort of thing??? Or should i just make things easier and throw AJ away being out of position and all?? Any input would be much appreciated.
