Default Fun w/ K7s

Party Poker 5-10. My Poker Tracker is having issues, so I have no numbers on any opponents. The only thing I know about my opponents is that MP seems pretty passive.

Preflop:
3 limpers to The Dude who limps in the CO w/ K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Button folds, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (5.5 SBs) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
Blinds check, UTG bets, MP raises, MP2 folds, The Dude calls cold. Both blinds fold, UTG calls.

Turn: (5.75 BBs) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
UTG checks, MP bets, The Dude calls, UTG calls.

River: (8.75 BBs) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
UTG checks, MP bets, The Dude calls...

I'm no 5/10 player, but do you think MP (passive though he may be) has a boat often enough that it's not worth raising the river?

Or is the concern more that UTG and MP may fold if you raise, so go for an overcall and win 2 bets instead of 1? (Along with not getting hosed when you're behind...)

Regards,
-Brian

I might've 3 bet the flop. That may scare the MP and his Q into a free card on the turn. It may also look like you have a 4 since you are in LP, you're more likely to have it than them. Your K could be good if it hits.

The turn is another spot you can semi bluff as a 4. It would certainly look like a strong hand doing this. Plus you picked up 2 more outs with a 7.

Lots of fun stuff you can do in this hand.

Not knowing the players though, I may very well take the line you took.

In my experience, if MP's got a Q he's willing to raise on the flop, he's seeing a showdown.

Dude,

Can you explain why you did not bet the river? You were scared of Q4, 47, or 48? I don't get it. I'd think this is an easy bet. Why chase your flush if your not going to bet when it hits? I mean, Am I wrong?

true. The pot size doesn't really justify it either.

UTG has something to bet out with on the flop and call all the way. Why not see what it is? If you think he'll fold, which is unknown given the make-up, then i'd raise. But he may raise behind you.

He's going for the overcall by the UTG. The MP bet the river.

Woops. I knew I must have missed something.

In situations like this, where the overcaller is unlikely to raise (and I see no evidence that UTG would raise), I almost always opt for a raise myself, since the original bettor rarely folds for just 1 more. So your 1 extra is guaranteed. Plus, if you're lucky, you could get an overcaller coldcall too.

What hands can you put UTG on?

I don't think so. A raise would probably fold UTG, and open Dude up to a 3-bet the very small % of the time he's beat. A call gets a definite overcall from UTG, since he's done nothing but call the whole hand -- 2 cold PF and on the flop and turn. I think this is a good spot for an overcall, especially since there will 5% of the time (or so) that Dude is beat by a boat or a bigger flush.
