NL HE deception pays off...
I usually dont like to make plays like this UTG, but my raises were getting wayyyyy to much respect...so i threw in a deception play! Talk about 3 out action...gotta luv it! The reason im posting this hand is not to show off a nice pot i won, it is to show how playing marginal hands can be profitable, in the right situations. Adding deception to your game is a must, but how and when is the tricky part...All comments welcome! Re: NL HE deception pays off...
Nice hand. I am not saying anything bad here, but in my opinon i would rather raise UTG with low suited connectors such as 45, 67 etc. for deception rather than A9 since i know if someone comes over the top of me or if he calls my raise cold i am probably dominated and my decisions would be much tougher if an Ace hits and i get any sort of action. Since your UTG there is a greater probability that someone who calls or raises will have you dominated, therefore i wouldn't do this with a weak ace rather with small pairs and low connecting cards. Well played, i hope you can consider what i wrote above in your next NL game. Take care, -MJ |

Re: NL HE deception pays off...
very true- However if someone does come over the top of me(if im playing 78s or 45s or Axs i muck)I understand completely what u are saying and it is correct. By making a raise like this- your doing so that if you hit a favorable flop u get paid...In this hand i have posted he didnt put me on a nine. He put me on something like queens. But yes you are so very right, thanks! 3 2 1 |

Re: NL HE deception pays off...
I think you maybe wrong about "my raises were getting wayyyyy to much respect" You raised 5 times the big blind UTG and he called with T9o. MS Sunshine |

When I see a hand history, I avert my eyes. I will not look at that crap. |
