Default Life after Paradise Poker.

You guys will like this one...I promise. I'm not ranting cause I lost - I walked away ahead. Probably the only guy on this board that has done so, judging by the amount of complaints...heh heh.

I've been playing Paradise for a month...had some good streaks and was about $400 ahead. I decided to cash out my original $200 bankroll...I then started losing a few tourneys...like 4 or 5. Not a big deal.

But I'm on a tourney last night joking with another player who was also doing poorly and I asked him if he cashed out...he had. I then joked about the stuff on scobi.com -

Today my Chat privileges were revoked...here is the conversation via email

-----------------------------------

This is what I sent:

> This is Whiskeytown...my chat privileges were removed for no reason after

> some comments I made in a tournament last night.

>

> First off...I would like to know which comments were so bad that I needed to

> be cut off chatwise with no warning whatsoever.

>

> This is unacceptable...either I will need to have those privileges

> reinstated within a few hours or my last action on Paradise will be to cash

> out my remaining $287 and go elsewhere. I will not play another single game

> on this website until they are restored.

>

> Thank You.

> Russ Brown "Whiskeytown"

Here is the response:

Hello Mr. Brown,

Your chat has been removed due to the following comment:

I've been on a nasty losing streak ever since I did. I lose all my winning at Paradise...I'm bailing...www.scobi.com has too many good points to ignore

Your chat will not be reinstated.

Regards,

Karen,

Paradise Poker Support

---------------------------

FIRST OFF...that looks like bad English....I meant to say IF I lose all my winningS(plural) , I'm bailing. As it stands I look like a bad English as a SL student. I wasn't gonna put any more money into that account...but I'd have wasted a month losing my last $300 in it.

I also really am not totally convinced that they would have screwed me out of my money...I can't place first every time, and even my horrific bad beats (AK called for 3 bets by 48 offsuit who rivered a straight) - aren't enough to convince me....for the simple reason that they would have made more money by allowing me to stay and lose my last $300 bucks. As it was, they simply dared me to take my business and go elsewhere.

But I feel that by taking such drastic measures to curb even speculation, they are definately reinforcing the image that Paradise is a crooked I-net card room. And now they know you should never try to screw an articulate guy who was born in and raised in Montana, (right, Ray Z?) -

So I'm outta there...I'll take my profits and go elsewhere...Pokerstars is looking good...so is CCC poker. But now I've gotta find a place with tourneys going on all the time. (hint hint - smaller online card rooms...wanna compete with Paradise...run satellite tourneys like they do so anyone can play as soon as there are 10 people)

So who is the 2nd biggest Inet cardroom then?

RB

I think UltimateBet runs little 1 table tournies 24-7

For ring games, Ubet and pokerstars are excellent alternatives, though Im still on paradise regularly....just too much action 24-7 not to be.

You insulted Paradise Poker in front of other players on their site. You insinuated that there might be some truth to scobi.com and that PP is potentially crooked.

They are running a business, not a public debate forum. They have every right to revoke your chat priveleges as you have the right to take your money elsewhere.

I don't think Paradise Poker has a responsibility to its customers to make sure that their free speech rights are upheld.

You can't realistically expect that Paradise will allow you to even mention the name of a website that is specifically designed to take away all of their business and destroy them. By the same token, if you walked into a restaurant and started loudly complaining about all of the numerous health hazards that were going on in their kitchen, they would ask you to shut up or to please leave.

Frankly, the fact that Paradise only takes away chat privileges is pretty mild, if you ask me. Your actions, though you may have felt that they were innocent enough, could eventually lead to the destruction of their business.

Pokerstars is a good site, though. Especially if you want to play PL or NL. I also like Poker.com and TruePoker.

CCCPoker never seems to have any players.

Default I agree with dk and Dog . . . ..

you can't play in someones house and insinuate they are crooked at the same time to other players. Would you do that at a "live" casino in front of a pit critter?

I always enjoy reading posts like that one because it strongly re-enforces to me that Paradise is THE place to play.

It shows that they are actively monitoring all aspects of their site and dealing actively with what they feel are important issues. As a player, that just increases my confidence in the site.

What exacty was the purpose of your post, relaying that to us? That you're an idiot? Mission accomplished. You managed to get yourself kicked out of the best game in town due entirely to your own stupidity, and you think you're going to find sympathy here?

Do you often walk into a place of business and loudly start saying negative things about it? Are you really surprised about any of this? Why don't you walk into a McDonalds and start telling everyone in there that dog-burgers are being served. When they kick you out, you can come here and complain. We'll all sympathize.

Kudos to Paradise for getting rid of you and be sure to let us all know what site you wind up playing at so we can avoid it, because any site that would want someone like you playing is not a site I want to play at.

Default groan...point missed again.

I never said they were crooked in this post...I never said it in my chat...I was simply joking with a player regarding our losing streaks and then I pointed him in a direction where other people where critical of PP

A transcript of the whole chat would look something like

"Hey...playerx..you're way down - we're getting killed.."

"Yeah..I know...turns and rivers are killing me"

"Me too...Did you cash out this week?"

"yes"

"must be the paradise beat...people claim to have losing streaks when they cash out"

"Really?"

"yep, - and then insert my offending post here

"lol"

If I thought they were exceptionally crooked, I'd have cashed out at $400...but I think they're just petty and they can ban my chat, but I will then go elsewhere...no problem. I won't beg them for the privilege. I mean, I cashed outta there the moment my tourney ended...no harm done.

But I can also warn other players who visit this forum and PP to watch what they say...you can lose privileges just for referring people to a website - and as I last recalled, I didn't see that posted anywhere on the website.

hmmm...come to think of it...maybe everyone who's against me on this issue is a Paradise Lacky.....hmmmm......prove you're not a Paradise Lacky

Default Devil\'s advocate

I understand the analogy discussed above regarding sitting in a live poker room and telling all the players around you that you heard the games in that room were crooked. Certainly, the proprietors would not be pleased. But wouldn't it be cause for concern if a floor person walked up to the complaining player and wrapped half of his face in duct tape (the half below his nose of course )?

I don't think it's correct to openly accuse a site of crookedness while playing at that site. I'm not all that pleased with Paradise's reaction, however. How cool would it be if PETA got teargassed by Burger King-employed stormtroopers the next time they protested in front of one of the stores (in anticipation of flames: a. I detest PETA and b. I'm fully cognizant of the different freedom of speech rights as they relate to being on or off the property of a business)

Some of our posters legitimately complain about problems with sites. I love it when a representative of that site comes on here to shed light on the dispute. When that happens, I hold that particular site in a little higher regard. Isn't it odd that Paradise never comes on here?

I'm not one of the conspiracy theorists, I continue to play the micro limits at Paradise and usually enjoy it. At the same time I think it's a little illogical to think that Paradise's handling of someone who mentions scobi.com reinforces the notion that they run a legitimate sight.

Just some things to think about.
