Default 77 on the button against a posted blind raiser

Party 3/6

EP player has just posted blind. Never played with him before so no reads. He raises. Folded to me on the button with 77. I raise to drive out the blinds.

BB cold calls, EP calls.

Flop is J,5,3. Two hearts.

EP bets, I raise, BB folds, EP calls.

Turn is K, no heart. EP bets into me.. I fold.

Was this too weak? was I playing 77 too strong?

One more thing. If a K or an A didn't fall, I probably would have called him down. Is this good thinking?
