Default Some more hands

Finally posted a win today, after losing my last three or so sessions. The main difference is that my sets actually held up today.

Anyway, some hands I wasn't too sure about:

This player was fairly new to the table.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (6 max, 5 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. UTG posts a blind of $1.
UTG (poster) checks, MP calls, Button calls, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: (5 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, UTG calls, MP folds, Button raises, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, UTG folds, Button caps, SB calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (9 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, Button bets, SB folds, Hero calls.

River: (11 BB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets, Button calls $0.50 (All-In).

Final Pot: 12.25 BB

Mainly concerned with the flop play. I must have been going for a free card.

Opponent is somewhat LAG.

I was waiting for a safe turn card to bet on this one. Too weak to fold here?

Default Re: Some more hands

Standard disclaimer: I'm new at this so don't take this as gospel...I'd appreciate anyone pointing out errors in my thinking.

Hand 1: I probably play this more passively. I might try a c/r on the flop if my read on the button is aggro and will bet (forces the field to call two, maybe you can get it HU). Probably not worth it though (probably more profitable to keep them in?)

Hand 2: KTo is a borderline hand for me to open with UTG, I'd do it in a tighter game but if the game is loose (like a typical 1/2 table) then I might pass. I don't like the flop bet (you have nothing, the entire field called two cold and there's a 3 straight on board). Since you got to the turn anyways the bet is obviously fine, I think I slow down quite a bit when I get c/r though you're probably in trouble (straight, 2 pair, better king are all pretty solid threats) and I don't think 3-betting will accomplish anything.

Hand 3: I'm glad you posted a hand like this because I'm not really sure what the best line would be. Against 3 people you're probably in trouble (certainly you are dead if another heart comes off). Against a smaller crowd I probably bet out and see what happens, but doing that here might be throwing your money away (especially at 1/2 where they will chase with just about any heart...6 high or some such trash). Interested to see what the others think, I think you played it fine.

Not betting in Hand 3 is a pretty bad mistake for a couple of reasons:

1) You are still a pretty decent favorite to win the pot. The flush usually *won't* get there.

2) Sometimes somebody will try and isolate you with either the A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], or something like AT. This is a good circumstance for you. For example, say that you bet out and the next player raises with AT. Somebody could easily fold a hand like A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] there since they figure that they're drawing almost dead.

3) A hand like K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] or 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] or J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] will probably fold for a bet on the flop, but could catch up to you on the turn if you give a free card.

Betting is correct from both a hand protection and value POV.

Hand 1: I don't usually reraise undercard draws from out of position unless there are enough players in the pot to make it clearly for value. You really don't gain anything by getting UTG to fold and you certainly aren't getting a free card unless the button wanted one anyway.

Hand 2: I think calling the river raise is better.

Hand 3: Bet the flop.
