Too early for this play? If so, where do I let this go?

Too early in the tournament to raise with 99 - better just to limp and play for the set. Your first flop raise is too big and the second raise should never have happened.

FWIW, I limp and try to hit the set as well.

I am not as aggressive as you are in early rounds, but the mini-raise is a build-the-pot signal to me that I translate to I am probably up against a strong hand.

THis early on, why battle against someone who's sent you signals that he's got you beat?

ps-how can you possibly tally 430+ posts in less than 4 months and be a fish?

Most of my time has been spent over in the micro-limits forum. I've played about 20K hands of limit and am a solid player there.

Unfortunately, I've been bitten my the SnG bug and I have no idea what I'm doing playing tournament NL poker. But I have a blast playing it. It's a good thing that I can make money playing limit to fund my addiction.

Post count has a weak correlation at best with fishiness.

i think that you made the right play on the flop, there is a good chance that you have the best hand. if he has a five or AA then thats poker. if you just call on the flop instead of pushing you will face a big bet on the turn and will be pot committed. but that is once you have raised the flop. the only other play is to just call but your opponents bet is most likely a six, or perhaps 78, and not a higher pair or a 5, since most likely those hands would check.

the only thing I don't like is your preflop raise - it should've been more if you wanted to be sure of pushing out hands that included a 5!

As for your aggression post flop, I assume if he had had a bigger PP he would've re-raised you preflop, and if he hit a boat on the river with 66 you're gonna go down no matter how you play it.

It's pretty aggressive, but not a bad play...although I hate putting my whole tourney on the line with a pair of 9s.

on second thought, it smells like JJs or 1010s...or even the 6...I lay it down after getting raised on the flop
