Default Would you want to be like this??

Kid at my school is the dumbest person ever. But he doesn't realize it. He's a nice kid, but he really is just dumb. Everyone likes him, but it's not a true friendship, but he still percieves it to be like that. Anyways, I am able to predict with 99% accuracy what he thinks will be funny and what he will not. I am also able to predict with the same accuracy when he will get upset and when he will not. So would you like to be like him? Ignore financial aspects of the equation though, because that makes it an easy no IMO.

He can't comprehend us making fun of him even in front of him. He will likely never understand it. I am pretty sure he has a blissful exsistence, but bliss=ignorance.

Wouldn't you eventually realize it though when none of your social relations create anything of significance? Or when he's 45 years old still living at his mothers house.. Yay the mailman and the pizza guy are amiable and nice to him.

He's not going to be able to function well as an adult where social relationships are everything.

My best guess is that he has Aspergers. It's undiagnosed and I'm pretty sure his mom is very reluctant to let him get mental tests. Anyways, if anyone knows of how an adult Aspergers patient who has never been treated will act, then that is how he will be when he's 45.

This reminds me of a Simpsons episode where Homer had an operation to have a crayon removed from his brain. He then became so smart (105 IQ) that he alienated himself from the community. He took the cowards way out and put the crayon back into his skull so he could be dumb again. He's dumb but happy.

I am reminded of another Simpsons episode entitled "Time and Punishment" in which The Simpsons (excluding Homer) have labotomies and experience bliss. They're dumb but happy.

I'm not happy all the time, and I'd probably be happier if I was dumber. So the question, as I see it, is: does intelligence lead to misery? Also would you give up intelligence for happiness/bliss? Even if dumb people are happier than intelligent people, an intelligent person would not want to give up his intelligence for happiness IMO. Intelligent people have a feeling of superiority over dumb people that they would never want to give up. They see dumb people as helpless and often times resent them for being so dumb and helpless and happy.
