$2/4 situation- protect my hand or go for overcalls?
bet365 $2/4 LHE, loose passive table with one TAG (other than me, of course ) This is a pretty simple situation, but it confuses me sometimes.
I am in the big blind and get dealt 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] There is a caller from early position that i think is loose-passive. A late position player (appearently TAG) raises, and the SB calls. I call, so does the EP player Flop hits me: 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I check, EP checks, LP bets, the SB folds, and i... raise to take odds away from a flush draw? go for an overcall from the EP player, and wait for the turn to check-raise? my thinking was that, since i'm in the BB, they would be more likely to give me credit for the sevens which would kill a big potential pot... thoughts? |

If you just call, and come alive on the turn, they know what you got anyway. So bet it here. They may not believe you anyway because people always slow play in this situation. As it says in another thread, fastplaying is the new slowplaying.

I was hoping that the turn would hit someone (not with the flush, of course) and they would bet it allowing me to put in a raise when the bet incresed. I decided against betting out on the flop because, like i mentioned, opponents will often give the big blind credit for the trips when a low pair flops, killing my action. Here's how the hand played out: The turn card, happily, was the A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Given the loose caller in between me and the raiser, i bet out, the EP player called, and the PF raiser in LP raised, allowing me to three-bet and seriously charge the EP player for his draw, but he folded, the raiser called and called again on the river. MHIG. thoughts? |

Re: $2/4 situation- protect my hand or go for overcalls?
just bet the flop.
checking really doesn't do much for you. if you check raise, you give away your hand, if you check call, lead the turn you give away your hand, if it gets checked through and scarecard comes, it either outdraws you or scares away your action. |
