Need strategy advice for game with a kill!

I've only rarely ventured into the realm of B&M play and just received a call form someone inviting me to a home game that will feature a kill. As I have no experience in kill games I thought I might seek out a little advice. Not sure this is the proper forum but I figure B&M players have more experience in these games as I don't recall any internet sites that regularly offer these.

Please offer any thoughts or advice. This promises to be a very juicy game. Why juicy? Read below for quotes from phone conversation I had with the host.

"I'm trying to get 3-4 solid players in the game.....I can make better reads."

"I was playing 5/10 at a casino and there were 8 people to see the flop regardless of pre-flop action........so I quit raising pre-flop."

"XXXXX is one of the fish that will be there." (XXXXX is one of the best players in my regular Sunday night $100 buy-in NL tourney)

UB used to have regular low-limit kill games ... don't know if they still do, though.

People are timid when the kill is on and you can run over them. Just treat it as a normal limit game with a bit higher blind.

You must also keep in mind that if people are more timid in a kill pot, if they are raising you must give them credit for a better hand then normal. Also there is usually less people to a flop in kill pots so specualative hands dont have as much positive EV.

Sounds like a great game.

Generally, play much tighter prelfop in a kill game if you think it will be multiway. If you have an opportunity to isolate, go ahead and try it.

Reason is that when you lose in a kill pot, those bets are harder to recoup because the limit goes back to normal so it's like losing double/quad bets. The kill button doesn't come aroung often enough to really play 'normal' when it's in effect.

Adjust accordingly.

Is it an optional kill, or a "forced" kill?

If it's an optional kill, then the game basically plays like 2x whatever the current stakes are, with the exception that the person who posts the kill is the last to act preflop. I have also seen double kills where the bets jump to 4x normal on all streets. Another way to think of it is like a live straddle from any position instead of just UTG.

If it's a forced kill (which I hate), in the B&M games I've played with it, it means that after you win 2 consecutive pots, you are forced to post a kill for the next hand, where the bets are 2x as expensive.

Actually never crossed my mind to ask. My asumption is an optional kill. The host use to run tournaments where the add on was called a rebuy. My hope is a live straddle. Figure it'll be the loose/gamblers at the table posting it and my thought is to isolate them with any decent holding while being wary of a rock raising behind me.

I have never heard of an optional Kill. All kill games are forced, this way it is fair to all the players at the table.

I disagree. I think people are more aggressive post-flop with a kill, pre-flop they are more timid because it is very common that the killer raises the pot pre-flop. For example a 4/8 full kill game starts with blinds of 2/4 and the live kill blind of 8. Everyone (including the small & sbig blinds) must call or raise the 8 blind, with the live killer last to act. Since the killer has this advantage to take the aggressor role, it is common that he or she raises pre-flop. Another common occurance is family pots during a kill hand. Gamblers love to play when its a killed pot.

Post flop, most players I know are super aggressive with a kill pot, everyone wants a big piece of the action!
