I had a feeling that when I got to the end of the story I’d find a name that was associated with the Bush White House somehow. Can't we find an article where the person is just reporting intead of pushing an agenda? Not that I don’t agree that these things are big negatives, it’s just the fact that the author gives us his “soundbite”, without reporting that the Democrats claim that these people handing out smokes were not invited and won’t be asked to return. The article made it sound as if Gore himself was down there handing out packs of cigarettes. Other [censored] from this article bugged me too. Like Clinton’s supposed crocodile tears. Crocodile tears are not just fake tears, they’re fake tears that have the purpose of mocking someone. Clinton’s tears may very well have been fake, but I doubt that they qualify as crocodile tears. Move on guys! This Clinton as whipping boy act is growing tired.
It didn’t take me long to find an article that gave both sides of the story and it makes me sick that this nation is full of fools who will glom onto an article like this and repeat it to their friends as if it were the whole truth. That said, with all of the problems I have with the article, I agree that the behavior of Democrats is shameless. I also find the behavior of Republicans to be reprehensible, so where does that leave me? I guess I’ll just have to wait for the circle to complete so we can start over again, new and improved. I won’t be holding my breath (or my tongue). What I’m looking for in a leader is someone who can rise above the accusations and finger pointing and just do the right thing. If the person happens to be Republican, I don’t care. In fact, if Illinois Governor George Ryan were to run for President, he’d have my vote. |

Typical Bennett claptrap; note how he carefully uses two instances to paint the Democrats with one broad stroke. Perhaps Bennett might like to recall Reagan's speech about educational opportunities made only a few hours after he had signed legislation that limited federal student financial aid. After all, he has served as Secretary of Education. (Of course, Bennett knows that the purpose of education is to maintain the type of morality he holds so dear. He even wrote a book about it.)
I also wonder why he doesn't hold out for the possibility of Clinton redeeming himself in much the same fashion as did Nixon. That would be the Christian thing to do. I guess Bennet considers Clinton, and perhaps the Democratic party, irredeemable. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I hear Bennett speak, I reminded of Getrude Stein's line. I'll paraphrase: Bennett's the village explainer; fine if you're a village. If not, not. John |

Being a big advocate of the "drug war" is suspect. Allowing oneself to be called the "czar" of anything confirms it. The only credit I can give commies is they knew how to treat nazis and czars.
