Standard laydown? His cold call on the flop had me worried about a set or 2 pair and thats not the card I wanted to see on the turn.

With no read on villain, and with that scary board, it's an easy lay down.

Raise more preflop, playing an overpair UTG can be tricky. Make people pay more to see a flop, when you have bad position here, you're letting them in too cheaply with your $3 raise.
I'd make it 6 or 7 p/f, or go for a limp re-raise if its an aggressive table.

i disagree, we'll get no action at all with your strategy. raising to $4 preflop is fine. limp/reraise is also good but raising to $6 or $7 is madness.

my thoughts exactly.

to the OP: my Lord, sound off like you've gotta pair on the flop. raising to $9 into a now $18 pot is asking for big trouble with such a board. trying to build a pot is appropriate when you have a monster hand/monster draw, but with one pair, you are much better off taking down the pot right now.

So you advise I raise to $15 or so? If button calls again, do I just check/fold?

By only raising to 9 on the flop you're giving them odds to hit the flush or OESD on the turn. Raise to 15 or 20 and take it donw right there.

i raise to at least $20. you want any drawing hands to pay at least the size of the pot to draw.

if you get called, make a 1/2 pot bet, and fold to a raise because you don't know if they are on flush draw or straight draw. if they have 2 pair or better, they will come over the top on the flop, and you can go ahead and get away from your hand.
