Default The hand that has helped my game more than any other

Hero is in the BB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Preflop: folded to Villian to raises in the CO, button and SB fold, hero calls

Flop: K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

hero checks, villian checks

Turn: 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

hero bets, villian raises, hero 3-bets, villian calls

River: 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

hero bets, villian calls

villian shows K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], (two pair, kings and jacks)
hero shows 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], (three of a kind, fours)

hero wins 10.33 BB

why has this hand helped my game?

Every time I start to get annoyed at fools suckign out on me a bunch of tgimes in a row i remember the time I 3bet the turn with two outs, and caught one of them.

(the purpose of the post is not to discuss the hand play)

I agree...I had a hand like that at the Mirage 10-20.

Two way pot: Hero has QJo, Total Rock(TR) has not played a hand in, literally, an hour. TR raises preflop, Hero makes cheesetastically bad call.

Flop comes 10 7 5 rainbow. TR bets, Hero raises, thinking steal possible if TR has AK. TR calls.

Turn comes 9. TR checks, Hero bets, TR calls.

River comes 8...flush possible, but TR certainly has pocket pair, so not scared. TR checks, Hero bets, TR calls.

Hero announces "Nut Straight!" and slams cards on table(Hero had been running extremely badly and was slightly tilted). TR's hands begin quivering with fury as murmur goes around table. TR mucks, and immediately gets a table change. Hero goes on to have very good session(without bad play/suckouts). TR periodically glares at Hero for rest of evening from other table.

All of this is to say: I usually don't lose my cool about bad beats anymore, because everybody gets lucky sometimes.

Ha, ha. Good one but I thought you were going to say something else as to the lesson learned. When I first read it, my reaction was if Villian didn't check the flop the hand is over. Villian by checking the flop triggered the whole chain of events that lead to his bad beat.

Heh, this is probably taking the digression too far, but if hero is going to play a turned pair of 4s like this, villain should check the flop.

Very true, but I was thinking more along the lines of how many people would play the hand. After receiving the free card on the flop, they would check and call the Turn(or bet, get raised and call) and then check raise the River after tripping up. Too many bad things happen when I slow play(particularly in limit), so I rarely do.

I made the same general point in "Anger Management: Part III." It's at cardplayer.com

Only my play was worse. Two times I misread the situation so badly that I capped on the turn with one out, but caught it. Knowing I've sucked out so badly allows me to accept other people's sucking out on me.

We ALL make dumb plays and get lucky, and remembering them can keep us from becoming too self-pitying or angry.

Regards,

Al

Default Here\'s mine...

Slavic got to witness this one as he was in the game.

I got a free play with 3x. 4 to the flop (i think).

Flop comes 3 3 9r

sb bets, she's been betting very light, i call, 1 player behind calls.

Turn 9. dammit.

sb bets, i raise, player behind calls (oops), sb folds.

River 3.

I bet, get called, the gal with the 9 looked like a truck hit her. Slavic just smirked and shook his head at me. Then rolled his eyes. lol.

Hey Al,

Why do you always have to sound like what I would
expect my psych guidance counsellor to sound like?

(LOL)

Good posts, always, but I seem to never be surprised
by them. Best Always, mosquito

I've been running bad lately. Not getting many big pocket pairs and when they do they haven't been holding up. I flop a straight and there's a four flush on the board by the turn...that sort of crap.

So yesterday I'm in an SnG, we get down to four and the big stack to the left of me is just hammering me every time I'm in the blind and I'm getting unearthly offsuit crap. 24, 83, 92, just garbage. I successfully defended one time with pocket nines but the rest of the time I couldn't beat a bluff. Down to three I say it's time to do or die...probably die. 8-4 offsuit he does it again, I push. He calls with AK. Fits in perfectly with my luck lately eh? Flop gives me a backdoor heart draw. Turn is a heart. River is a heart. All of a sudden I'm the chip leader by a huge margin and hammer the other two into insensibility.

Sometimes luck is a beautiful thing and sometimes it's a disease ridden crack ho.
