Default To rebuy or not to rebuy?

Local yokel tourney at lodge named for large animal. 75 players expected (up from 50 the past few years), many likely WPT watchers with little experience. $100+25 (1000 chips), limit holdem for 3 hours, then dinner (included!) and no-limit thereafter. I'm new to the tourney and really have no idea the skill level. There will be one rebuy, $55 for 500 chips at anytime in the first hour only, so long as one drops below 1000. I'm tempted to bet and fold the first hand, then add-on 500 chips immediately, but wonder what others would do with this type of setup.

That's what I would do. Limp in on the first hand no matter what you hold. Hope to hit a big flop, and if not, just fold and call for the rebuy. If it is raised behind you, fold and call for the rebuy.

If it is raised in front of you, fold and do the above on the next hand.

Well, that's my 2 cents. Good luck.
