Default Stud tournament?

So I was playing in a 7-stud tournament last night with unspectacular results. Here's how I went out:

I have T1000 left. Ante's are 100. Bring in is 100. Game is 200-400 (so obviously, I'm not doing great).

In my final hand, it is:

xx4d (bring in)

xx5d (chip leader)

xxAs (woman)

and then me with

(9d Kc) Ac (all other players fold - all of everyone's up cards are live, as are my K and 9)

I complete the bet for 200 and all call.

Fourth:

Bring in:xx 4d 7h

Chip leader: xx 5d 2s

Woman: xx As 3d

me: (9d Kc) Ac 6c

All check to me and I bet 200. Only chip leader calls.

Fifth:

Chip leader: xx 5d 2s 5h

me: (9d Kc) Ac 6c Ks

Chip leader bets and I raise all in for T500 and he calls. We turn over our hands and he has:

(5c 8s) 5d 2s 5h, against my

(9d Kc) Ac 6c Ks

I catch two pair on 6th but don't fill up on the river so I'm out.

Basically curious about:

1) Did I let myself get too low? I don't know what a "desperate" level of chips is in 7-stud; on one hand I thought maybe it should be higher than Holdem due to the relentless antes, but on the other hand, maybe it can be lower due to the fact that there is already a pot when you choose to play a hand.

2) Was this a reasonable hand to die with?

Tournament pays final table and we are at 5 remaining tables so making the money is a long way off. Forgot to mention this.
