I see that Luxor has twice daily freeze-out tournaments ($25 most days). Have any of you played in these? From what I understand the blinds go up pretty darn fast...
Anyhow, any intel on these, or the freerolls they say they spread (http://www.luxor.com/superset.php3/gaming/poker.php3) is much appreciated. |

Blinds go up very fast. Makes it more or less a crapshoot, IMO.

I'm not familiar with the term "freeze-out"; what does it mean?

Freeze-out means no re-buys offered. And yes, the Luxor tourney is a crapshoot. Played my first poker in Vegas last week, and was very excited for NL tourney play. Unfortunately, I would not recommend seeking out this type of game in Vegas. It appears all casino tournaments have one thing in mind, players busting out early when forced to commit their chips due to a quick blind schedule on questionable hands so that they will join the raked games. Thanks, guys. Are the freerolls they offer for players logging hours the same way? Do these freerolls even happen? As you say, I've heard the Orleans' tournaments are very well run, and get you good play for your money.
Any idea as to the average # of entrants in the Luxor crapshoots? |

Hi, I played in it once, $25 and $3 more for $50 more in chips, if I recall it was all of 300 in chips and yes it is a speed tourney.
It's usually bigger field now, but this was maybe 6 weeks ago? Only used 1 table and had alternates, total of 15 people it took maybe 75 mins total, and I chopped for first, which was $110 each. With 15 they paid top 4, 4th: $25, 3rd: $40, 2nd: 75, 1st: $145 Definitely a weak field.... but I was all in with 5 people left with KJ. Board wound up: KKxxK and I took it from there.... chopped when we were about even, and with the blinds, every hand if played with normal betting was AI by the river... a crapshoot. I didn't think the whole thing was a crapshoot, but I have experience off the internet with SnG's and some obnoxiously fast tournaments as well, it's a different animal, but still skill comes into play, you have to be patient and push your edges... it is almost like starting off crippled, use that strategy... Luxor's dealers are below average in experience also, it's a starter dealer job IMHO there, but still a step up from the real dumps. -Bri |

Total crapshoot due to the blind structure. I felt that the Mandalay Bay daily tourney was marginally better. Then again that may be because I did well in that one.

hey, thanks! I was (sort of) saved from having to show my ignorance by asking the same thing. I thought I had a good idea of what it meant, but was waaaay off.

Pretty much you need to win a hand to survive until the NL phase of the tournament after the first hour.
