What the $#%& happens to this forum???

For the last week, every night that I've tried to access the forum past 11pm it's slower than molasses. Usually, the pages will come up but it will churn on them for 30 seconds or more on many occasions before they load - and often times it just times out and I've got to start all over again.

Perhaps you are scheduling maintenace on the server or forum for this time - but whatever it is you are doing is extremely annoying. I thought it might be just me or my internet connection - but for 4 nights in a row during the same time period it's been like this.

Anyone else?

It's soooooooooooo annoying.

Mason and Chuck Weinstock have addressed this in other threads and basically said "we're dealing with the problem". Tonight has been just as bad as any other night.

I've seen some slowness and timeouts reporting SQL errors . Just assuming but I'd bet it's the same SQL that had the server worm problem over the weekend. [img]/forums/images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

Highly unlikely...

That worm only affected Microsoft's SQL Server 2000 or MSDE 2000. I find it very unlikely that the engine behind this bulletin board is using either of those - most likely something like MySQL or some other 'free' linux variant.

Nonetheless, it's weird because it works great all during the day - but late at night it just comes to a screeching halt with forums and messages taking 30 seconds or more to load - if they even load at all.

I bet it's just MSAccess and DSL or Cable Modem from home.

I was also wondering, at what time in the morning does it return to normal.

This has been tough for me, because I usually read and post at 2-3 AM CST after work.

You get what you pay for. Most hobby/game sites like this have insane amounts of popups or continual "donation" drives. Then again poker (especially internet poker) is a whole different beast.

Yeah, it is MySQL, oftentimes during hiccups the CGI's display errors concerning the database (all that strange text on the screen), and MySQL is mentioned.
