Default $60k in 60 days -- Days 30 & 31

Day Thirty (June 11, 2004) and Day Thirty One (June 11, 2004) -- 06.12.04, 09:28

It's the weekend! I've been so busy this weekend it's been ridiculous. So it looks like today is going to be a shorty-journal since I've some graduation open houses to get to soon.

I played 8 hours on Day Thirty, bunched up over 4 different sessions: -$318.50, -$459.50, +$1306, and +$705.50. The first three sessions totaled 2 hours, and the last one was a six hour one where I was card dead and breaking even until the last hour or so. I know, I just read my first paragraph, then this one. I really have been busy, honestly!

Limp-reraising gone bad: I'm dealt AsAc UTG and limp, UTG+1 limps, CO raises, SB calls, BB calls, I 3-bet, all call. 7s9h4s flop; check, check, I bet, UTG+1 calls, CO raises, SB cold calls, BB 3-bets, I call (with intentions of raising a BB bet on the turn), UTG+1 folds, CO caps, SB folds, BB calls, I call. Turn Ad; check, I check, CO bets, BB calls, I raise, both call. River 2s; BB bets, I call, CO raises, BB calls, and I make a 26:1 crying call to see SB's Ts8s and CO's As3s. That hand hurt.

Relieved to get half the pot: button raises, SB calls, I 3-bet in my BB with QdQs, all call. Flop KsJc9s; I bet and all call. Turn Td; I bet and all call. River Qd; I bet, button calls, and SB folds and I split the pot with 44. With the river I was relieved to get half the pot, though it begs the question of 'what was button doing in this whole time?'

On one of my tables there had been a maniac that was bludgeoning me. This hand felt like really nice payback: Maniac raises from the button, and I call in my BB with Qc8c. Flop JdTc9d; check, bet, I raise, maniac 3-bets, I call. Turn 7s; I bet, maniac raises, I 3-bet, he caps. River 3c; I bet, he raises, I 3-bet, he calls, and I win against his 8s7d.

In this one, I felt like this guy had overcards or a flush draw, and played accordingly: UTG and UTG+1 limp, I complete with 4s4c, BB checks. 8c3s2c flop; I bet, 2 folds, UTG+1 raises, I call. Turn 9d; check, bet, I raise, call. River 5h; I bet, fold. I decided to include this hand for discussion because if I'm going to continue with this hand, my typical line would be to 3-bet the flop and go from there. Here, I felt like my read was right 99% of the time, so, even if my hand wasn't a monster, I felt like relative to his hand it was, so I played it like how monsters are played.

Easiest river check raise ever: UTG and button limp, SB completes, I check with Ah3c; 3h3s8h flop; SB bets, I call, fold, button raises, both call. Turn As; SB checks, I check, button checks. River 6h; SB checks, I check, button bets, SB calls, I raise, button 3-bets, SB folds, I cap, he calls and has Jh2h. Boy I would have felt foolish if this guy had K8 and checked the river.

Two more read-dependent decisions: In the first one, 2 EP limpers, and I raise out of my SB with KsKh, and both limpers call. AdTs9c flop; I bet, UTG raises, fold, I 3-bet, UTG caps, I call. From this, I deduce UTG definitely does not have an ace since he does not give this much flop action when he actually has a strong hand. He could have a lower pair, or he could have a hand such as QJ or KJ. Turn 9h; I check, UTG bets, I call. River 2c and the same action, and I lose to UTG's 22. My turn and river decisions were based on the fact I was certain he would continue to bet his cards when checked to, but would maybe fold if I continued to bet. In the second one: Two EP limpers, I limp from the button with 3d3, SB raises, all call. 9s9c2h flop; SB bets, 2 folds, I raise, SB 3-bets, I cap, he calls. I know this guy, and know if he gives this much action this fast on the flop, he doesn't like his hand much yet. So in other words, he has an ace. Turn Th; check, I bet, call. River Tc; check, I check since I know his hand, and he wins with AK.

Anyway, I finished Day 30 up $1233.50 in 8 hours.

Day 31, Saturday, I only played about 30 minutes. Around 4:15pm, I got seated at two tables and was on waiting lists for two others with a few of my favorite chumps ever. Right when a seat opened up for those two tables too (I had been waiting about 15 minutes, which is unusual for me since I typically do not find it worthwhile to specifically wait for a table), my friend finally called saying he was ready for volleyball over at his house. I knew the call was coming at any time before logging in for poker, so, I accepted the fact I wasn't going to play much. I was up $125 in those 15 minutes at two tables.

We played volleyball for over 4 hours straight last night, then chilled inside and cooled off for an hour. I got home around 10:45, showered, and logged into Empire by 11:15. Wow, I was at some awesome tables! But there was a small problem… I couldn’t keep my eyes opened! Between the volleyball, and getting 4 hours of sleep the night before, I was too tired! By 11:30, I decided to quit, set my alarm for 1am, and go take a nap and hope I'd have enough in me to play a couple hours after the alarm would wake me up… That didn’t happen. The alarm went off, and I was still extremely tired so I called it a night with a grand total of an $86 loss and 30 minutes of play on the day.

Total for Day 30: $1233.50
Total for Day 31: -$86
Goal to date after 31 days: $21,912.74/$60,000

Man, Golf, Bowling, Volleyball and Poker, we are a lot alike, lol. Except that I am in an amazingly huge slump. I am starting to get really frustrated and I don't know what is wrong. I am going to have to wait on the purchase of my bowflex until after I get a little of my bankroll bank.

Wow, this morning my session is going a little better, I feel very comfortable whereas the last 4 days I have been very uneasy.

On to you, are you still going to be playing this much after the 60 days? Have you ever been a big casino game player?

They seemed to be all awesome tables last night, not that I could win. Ok, since all I am doing is playing and letting this reply sit here, I am going to send it. I have been typing this reply for like an hour.

Substitute basketball in for golf and then you've hit. I don't even remember if I made it out golfing last year. I know two years ago I didn't. During high school years I'd get out to a course a couple times a year. But regardless, it still is a fun game

Nothing is wrong. I've noticed nothing note worthy while playing at tables with you, other than you liking to raise on my blinds too much Keep the conscious effort of staying tight aggressive and the results will turnaround soon.

Not a chance. I've played poker every day but one during this quest, and I'll admit there've been a couple of days I've longed to take a day off. After this quest I'll probably tone it back down to about as much as I played during school, which is to say an hour or two a day and whenever I feel like it. I'd also like to use the rest of the summer to improve my NL and tournament games.

Last summer I made it out to Canterbury probably 3+ nights a week, and before that probably monthly trips. The more I play online though the more I dislike live, be it simply due to the drive + wait + slowness and for whatever reason losing sessions live tend to hurt (for me, anyway) more than they do online. It shouldn't make a difference, but actually having that money in front of you and seeing the chips flow away sucks.

Do you feel any burnout at all?. Do you plan to increase your hours on the second half or move to 15-30?. Congrats on your results.

At times, I feel a little burn out. This weekend was a good energizer since I didn't play that much.

I've played on the 15 tables a few times so far and if I hit another wall any time soon I might play 15 fulls for a little change of pace.
