Ermm... bubble play at a $30+3 Party Sng.
Blinds 200/400. Stack sizes: Hero: UTG with 1700 Button: 2550 SB: Small stack at 1100 (+200 blind) BB: 2050 (+400 blind) I pick UP ATo. Q: Steal here? A lot of times with these stack sizes I fold basically everything and wait for the small stack to have to make a stand. A couple times recently I've employed this strategy, and when the small stack doubles up or when a bigger stack folds the blinds to the small stack while stealing mine, suddenly I'm in trouble. Also, my stack is still roughly on par with the chip leaders, and I don't really expect a call from much other than the premium hands. Alas, I move in, the BB shows me QQ, and I'm out on the bubble. Bad timing, I know... should I have folded here? If so, should I be staying passive here, or making stands with perhaps lesser hands in better position? Curious to here others' thoughts. -muz |

I think you're right, you can't depend on the small stack to get blinded out here, too many things can happen, so you have to keep playing. Not to mention the fact that you are by no means out of contention to finish first.
So, you play. And I know this, 4-handed I personally am going to play A10 every time from UTG. My only question would be whether to go all-in or to limp, hoping to trap. And if I did limp, and someone else went all-in, I would likely call. I think you got unlucky here, but from my perspective, you did nothing wrong. The cards just were bad for you. |

Easy shove IMO.

I think limping would be bad.
I think it's an easy all-in w/ the blinds so high. Because of the Gap concept, only premium cards (with the exception of the BB) will call you. You just happened to run into a real hand...it happens. |
