heads up odds question
Somewhere I read in heads hold 'em up poker QQ beats AK slightly more than half of the time. (I guess this is based on that both players see the river.) Assuming this is correct, does JJ beat AK most of the time? Does 10-10? Or 9-9? So which pocket pairs do? Also, if a player starts out with two different valued cards , what are the odds that the player makes at least one pair on the flop?; by the turn? by the river? |

Re: heads up odds question
22 beats AK heads up. The only hot-cold difference between QQ and 22 heads up vrs AK is that sometimes the board will contain 2 pair or full-house, thus counterfeiting any pair smaller than the smaller board pair. OK, there are some trip issues too. These are unlikely. If you have different ranks there are 50 cards left in the deck, of which 6 are of your rank and 44 are not. There are 50choose 3 flops. There are 44choose3 flops that do not contain your ranks. So the chance you DO flop at least one of your rank is 1-[44choose3/50choose3] = 1-[(44*43*42/3*2)/(50*49*48/3*2] = 1-[44*43*42/50*49*48]= 32.4%: With AK you will flop at least a pair one-third of the time. Add "*41/47" for the turn, and *41*40/47*46 for the river. - Louie |

Re: heads up odds question
Thanks a lot Louie...makes perfect sense. And to scalf..yes Vancouver is gorgeous 120 days out of 365 when it doesn't rain. So the odds of Vancouver being gorgeous is roughly the same as pairing an AK on the flop. |

Re: heads up odds question
All pairs are slight favorite heads up against AK. Q's can make a straight when a K flops but then AK can make a straight with a Q on board. Negating str8 posibilities all underpairs are the same. |
